The MFA Degree vs The Adventure Film Role

“I can’t support myself on an academic career, or directing, yet,” he says. “So I took it.”

He sounds pained.

“I’ve done my thesis, I’ve done everything,” he says softly. Because he took the role, Franco lost a semester’s worth of work and will not graduate [from Columbia University’s MFA Program] this year.


“I love reading, I love fiction, I love books,” he says of his curious résumé. “It’s really hard to find a place where you can go and discuss those things seriously, other than a university or a writing program.”
