…you’re gonna deal with a some serious douchebags. that’s the general gist of Dan Baum’s epic twitter about the decline of his career at The New Yorker.
now we’re not saying David Remnick is a total douche. even Dan Baum is not saying David Remnick is a total douche.
but it’s clear that a general air of douchiness hangs over the offices of that prestigious mag.
baum lets us in on some pretty surprising facts. such as The New Yorker offices are less like a library, more like a mortuary. and maybe the magazine business really is a business after all.

The biggest disappointment was learning that, after all, it’s not only about the work on the page. That the writing life is not a pure meritocracy, or a refuge from office politics. All that crap still matters.

up until the point when people asked him not to break sentences, my body was humming with the blood-rush I feel when I read engaging poetry. Then everything kind of calmed down once the sentences read unbroke.
