“He is hardly the first poet to be accused of sexual indiscretions”

May 10, 2009

Whoa, do you guys feel that?

It’s the poetry world being “rocked by a ‘sex pest’ scandal” thanks to PROFESSOR DEREK WALCOTT, whose passionate teaching style included such prompts for poe-ems as “Imagine me making love to you. What would I do?” Get your daughters prepared to apply to Oxford STAT, folks, cause Walcott’s got a campaign with supporters. Who are saying things like this:

Should great poets who behave badly be locked away from social interaction? We are acting as purveyors of poetry not of chastity

i think the best implication in that exchange is that Walcott’s poetry is slow and deliberate:

Walcott: Imagine me making love to you. What would I do?
Student: Huh? I guess you’d be sort of slow and deliberate.
