1-2-3-4 Tell Me That You Love Me More

March 5, 2009

look, we know you think you’re tough shit.  we know you think you’re seasoned.  maybe you’ve gotten, like, ten rejections in the past 12 months.  and that’s about a rejection a month.  you’re solid, kid, you can take it.  but you’re no Jac Jemc.

for real, this lil chickie is hardcore, ya’ll.  Jac Jemc (pronounced JACK GEMS) has one of the best blogs out there: The Rejection Collection chronicles  both fair and foul responses that magazines and literary journals have to her work.

she’s up to #146  and each rejection nabs itself an apropos photo, a witty response, and some sage ramblings about the submissions process.  ’cause, for real, when an editor says “you’ve got some fine work here”–precisely which incarnation of fine are they using?  fine like “hey baby, that poem is mighty fine!” or fine like “hey baby you are lookin fiiiiinnnnne tonight!”  or is it “fine” as in “reFINEd” as in “your work is so fine it will one day be the epitome of modern literature”?  once and for all, dear editors, WHAT’S.  THE.  FRICKIN. HAPS. ?.

and why you suckas take so long to read a poem, for chrissakes?!

Jac began with rejection #42 back in May 2008, and well, the vowel movers couldn’t be more proud of the success she has made from little to no success at all.

WE ACCEPT YOU, JAC!  You’re in a little journal we like to call our hearts*.
