Silliman Says It Best

October 2, 2008

“I saw the best minds of my generation turned into a cheesy docudrama”

& Franco says this:

“I’ve certainly read ‘Howl.’ I was very into the beatniks when I was in high school, and I still am. So I certainly have read Howl many times.”

“Bookish hunk” Franco will be joined by celebrity poem-lovers Paul Rudd and Mary Louise-Parker in the movie Howl.  All of this Hollywood attention on poets as protagonists got us thinking:

Here are our picks for celebs to star in all-those upcoming poet biopics:

Jorie Graham played by Minnie Driver:

John Ashbery played by Fred Willard:

Charles Bernstein played by Bob Balaban:

Kenneth Goldsmith played by Sam Rockwell:

Lyn Hejinian played by Glenn Close:

Rae Armatrout played by Sally Field:

Kenneth Koch played by Dustin Hoffman:

Langston Hughes played by Jeffrey Wright:

Christian Bok played by (ok, not a movie star, but LOLZ!) Spencer Pratt:

Peter Gizzi played by Michael C. Williams:

Rachel Blau DuPlessis played by Tilda Swinton:

Jena Osman played by Mayim Bialik from Blossom:

our favorite bad-ass poet of the week Olena Kalytiak Davis played by Naomi Watts:

Nice project but I have to say “Jena Osman played by Mayim Bialik from Blossom” is way off mark. If you dig a little deeper, I would say Lilly Taylor might be more fairly comparable to the John Ashberry- Fred Willard standard.

Any producers lined up? The script seems secondary, it could all be done Dogma style, while locked in a shipping container.

    Excellent work.

But Bernstein should be played by Judd Hirsch. Check it.
