A Rose Is A Rose…

September 28, 2008

You may not call New Jersey’s famed Dodge Poetry Festival by any other name, but

Robert Hass calls it “heaven”

The Christian Science Monitor calls it “a new woodstock”

and The New York Times: “wordstock”

Anthony Buccino, a blogger over at NJ.com recalls wondering what a poetry festival might be like before his first visit to Dodge:

Maybe there’d be a bunch of beatniks sitting around a candle snapping their fingers. Maybe there’d be loud rock music and a non-stop poetry slam with a mosh pit?

Fabulous! After four days of driving up and back, I could have been in Ohio if I had just gone straight on I-80. But I wouldn’t have run into half as many former Poet Laureates or Pulitzer prize winners or 19,000 other people who reall, really enjoy poetry.
