When an MFA Ain’t Enough…

August 13, 2008

Turns out, our report about James Franco’s MFA plans for the fall excluded a seriously crucial piece of info. Franco’s not only enrolled at Columbia University for said MFA, but he’s also taking classes at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts towards a MASTERS DEGREE.

Does this mean that even with the celebrated MFA in creative writing degree in hand, getting a job isn’t a given? Ouch. Ouch.

you know academia is only going to get more competitive with so many actors matriculating; a list that includes Natalie Portman, Claire Danes, Julia Stiles, Mr. Franco, & MK and Ashley Olson. How can average candidates compete with lectures by Jodie Foster or even…KUMAR?! That’s right! Kumar, aka Kal Penn aka Kalpen Modi is an adjunct lecturer in the Asian American Studies Program at the University of Pennsylvania (scroll way down): http://asam.sas.upenn.edu/faculty.php

regular academics don’t stand a chance!

MFA programs are overrated. Tell Franco he should quit.
