Poetry: Better Than Texting!

Poetry ‘de-familiarises’ ordinary language – sometimes fairly subtly, like Wordsworth or Yeats, sometimes radically, like Hopkins and Dylan Thomas – making it available as an object of contemplation and enjoyment. As far as I know, nothing else in our culture does that – not music, not fiction, not even texting! It’s a pretty big loss.
